artexpo 2008.

The event was held successfully from 29th to 31st August, 2008 at the premises of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, Onikan, Lagos. Over four hundred creative art works of reputable Nigerian artists, executed in various styles, techniques and media with interesting themes were professionally exhibited in 34 exhibition booths - each booth to a gallery. Infact, it has been remarked that since FESTAC 1977 exhibition of visual art, there has never been any such elaborate exhibition of modern Nigerian art. It was obviously a good display of skill and excellence.
The skillful design and construction of exhibition booths, coupled with the manner in which the art works were displayed made the entire scene aesthetically appealing and memorable too. The exhibition was accompanied with a highly informative 125-page publication, containing the history and development of private galleries of art in Nigeria before and after independence till 2008 as well as the emergence of Art Galleries Association of Nigeria (AGAN). It also briefly touches on the coming into being of ArtExpo Nigeria. It is a publication that art teachers, students and studio artists should have due to its rich content. The programme was officially declared open by Mary Lou Johnson Pizzaro of the Public Affairs Section of the United States Embassy in Nigeria.
